Da The Hollywood Reporter:

Disney Plans Live-Action Film About Snow White's Sister (Exclusive)

The story is a revisionist take that adds sister Rose Red into the Snow White tale.

Walt Disney is going back to the fairy-tale-princess well with Rose Red, the story of Snow White’s sister, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The studio has picked up a project which has a script by Justin Merz and a pitch by Evan Daugherty that reworks the original script. Tripp Vinson is producing via his Vinson Films banner.

Rose Red is a character that appeared in Grimms' fairy tales in an adventure that had no relation to the more well-known Snow White and the Seven Dwarves fairy tale that inspired the classic Disney animated film.

Merz’s Red was initially written as a stand-alone feature, but then Daugherty came up with a new take that made the story closer to the animated classic, giving Rose a “companion piece” feel.

The story is a revisionist take that transposes Rose Red into the Snow White tale, making her a key player in the later part of the classic story. When Snow White takes a bite from the iconic poison apple and falls into her Sleeping Death, her estranged sister, Rose Red, must undertake a dangerous quest with Grumpy and the other dwarves to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life.

Tara Farney is executive producing. Merz and Adam Rodin are co-producers on the project.

Daugherty knows a thing or two about the Snow White tale as he previously wrote Snow White and the Huntsman, the Universal fantasy that starred Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth. Other credits include 2014’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Divergent. He is repped by UTA and Jake Wagner at Benderspink.

Merz, repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Festa Entertainment, was a writer on the 2014 animated film The Boxcar Children.

The project is the third fairy tale Vinson has set up at Disney in the last eight months. He has Genies, a prequel to Aladdin, and Prince Charming, a project based upon the iconic character seen in many a fairy tale, already in development at the studio.

Disney Developing Live-Action Movie on Snow White’s Sister

Continuing its trend of spinning animated classics into live-action movies, Disney is now developing a second installment of its first fully animated feature film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.”

Sources confirmed to Variety that the studio is developing “Rose Red,” which follows Snow White’s sister. Disney will use a pitch by Evan Daugherty to polish the original draft by Justin Merz. The latter’s script has been around for some time, but Disney recently picked it up after Daugherty came to execs with an updated pitch on the story.

Tripp Vinson is producing the pic via his Vinson Films banner.

Rose Red is a character that appeared in “Grimms’ Fairy Tales” in an adventure that had no relation to the more well-known “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves” fairy tale that inspired the classic Disney animated film.

Tara Farney is executive producing, while Merz and Adam Rodin are co-producers on the project.

This marks the second go around for Daugherty in the “Snow White” world, after penning the script to Universal’s “Snow White and the Huntsman.” He is repped by UTA and Jake Wagner at Benderspink.

Merz was a writer on the 2014 animated film “The Boxcar Children.” He is repped by Abrams Artists Agency and Festa Entertainment.

The Hollywood Reporter first reported the news.

Disney is developing Rose Red, a live-action film centered on Snow White’s sister, EW has confirmed.

Dal sito Lawyer Herald:

Rose Red film officially announced; Disney to introduce Snow White's sister

Disney is bringing fans back to the world of Snow White, but this time the focus is on the princess' sister, Rose Red. Snow White and the Huntsman writer Evan Daugherty is on board to rewrite the film initially penned by Justin Merz.

The mouse house's iteration of the classic story of Snow White and Rose Red deviates from the version of Snow White in the fairy tales, but rather connects Rose Red as the sister of the classic version of the princess who was helped by seven dwarves.

According to Den of Geek, the story of Snow White will be retold but will center on her estranged sister, Rose Red, who will come to her rescue after she takes a bite of the poison apple. In the upcoming film, Rose Red will team with the seven dwarves to bring her sister back to life.

Aside from the connection between the sisters, official plot details are still unknown. However, as reported by /Film, the Grimm's tale featured a cranky dwarf and a prince disguised as a bear, thus it is possible that such elements would also be translated into the film. But until official details are released, plot speculations must be treated with a grain of salt.

According to Variety, the original draft was penned by 'The Boxcar Children' writer Justin Merz. The film is set to be polished by Evan Daugherty who pitched the connection of Rose Red to Snow White. Tripp Vinson is set to produce under Vinson Films along with Merz and Adam Rodin as co-producer. Also, Tara Farney is on board to executive produce.

Rose Red is the latest announced flick for Disney after the successful live action iterations of Cinderella and Maleficent. Huge anticipation is also circling around its upcoming Beauty and the Beast live version starring Emma Watson. No release date has been announced as of yet for Rose Red.

Il sito riprende quanto riporta /Film:

The Grimms’ Snow White and Rose Red tale involves a cranky dwarf and a bear who’s really a prince in disguise, so don’t be surprised if those elements surface in the Rose Red movie.

- Schneewittchen è il nome della protagonista della fiaba in cui appaiono i sette nani;

ROSE RED (18), a red-headed tomboyish princess, is late arriving to her sister, SNOW WHITE's (20) wedding to PRINCE CHARMING (20s). During the reception, she meets a couple and recounts the untold adventure behind the classic Snow White fairy tale.

A week earlier, Rose Red arrives at the scene of her sister's potential murder, and heartbroken by her sister's death-like sleep, she swears to find the culprit and return her sister to health.

Rose returns to the castle and is told by SERGIUS (50), the queen's creepy henchman, that the queen is missing. Suspicious of her absence, Rose sneaks into the queen's chamber and speaks to her magic mirror, who recounts the events that led to Snow White's sleep and the queen's role in the affair.

She finds a hidden door to the queen's dungeon and discovers a spell book open to a potion for a poisoned apple. The only remedy is true love's first kiss, and it must be administered within five days or the spell will last forever. Knowing she has to find Prince Charming, she rushes from the castle, spell book in tow.

Daydreamer, ti adoriamo!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: DISNEY EYEING BRIE LARSON FOR SNOW WHITE SPINOFF ROSE RED

Disney has approached Academy Award winner Brie Larson for the title role of the studios long in development live-action fairy tale spinoff Rose Red, Disney Film Facts has exclusively learned.

The story is to be set after Snow White takes a bite from the poisonous apple and falls into her “Sleeping Death” towards the end of the original story. This causes Snow White’s sister Rose Red to set off on a journey with the seven dwarfs to find a way to break the curse and bring Snow White back to life. The project doesn’t have a director attached at this time, but the studio is currently searching.

Rose Red is a character that appeared in Grimms’ fairy tales in an adventure that had no relation to the more well-known Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs fairy tale that inspired the classic Disney animated film.

The project started as an original script by Justin Merz (The Boxcar Children), which was envisioned as a stand-alone movie. Screenwriter Evan Daugherty (Snow White and the Huntsman, Tomb Raider) came up with a different take described as a “companion piece” that sticks closer to the original animated movie. Kristin Gore (SNL) completed the most recent draft of the script. Tripp Vinson who is producing Disney’s Prince Charming is on board to produce.

Larson is already familiar with the house of mouse as she is currently in the middle of production on Marvel Studios Captain Marvel.

No word yet on a production or release date for Rose Red.

Staremo a vedere...

Q: I have a question: what happened to the live-action of Rose Red? Was it canceled or is it still in development?
