‘A Little Mermaid’ First Pic From New MVP Studios

by Patrick Hipes

February 23, 2016 10:13am

MVP Studios said today it is kicking off production next month on the live-action family pic A Little Mermaid, which will serve as the first project for the new company founded by Robert Molloy, who is the grandson of former New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, and producer Armando Gutierrez. Poppy Drayton, Loreto Peralta and Shirley MacLaine are set to star in Mermaid, with Chris Bouchard directing. The film will be shot in Georgia for a 2017 release.

In the Blake Harris-penned screenplay, a young orphan (Peralta) discovers a beautiful and enchanting creature (played by Drayton) she believes to be the real “Little Mermaid.” MacLaine will play Eloise, an eccentric woman who has intimate knowledge of the story. Molloy and Gutierrez (Walt Before Mickey) are producing via their Tampa-based MVP Studios, which is also prepping a Lou Gehrig biopic.

“We’re thrilled to be launching MVP Studios with A Little Mermaid, a magical adventure that uses the beloved fairy tale as its jumping off point, but is an all-new story with all-new characters that the entire family can enjoy,” the producers said in a statement.

‘A Little Mermaid’ Beckons William Moseley, Three Others

March 29, 2016

William Moseley has booked a starring role in A Little Mermaid, and Diahann Carroll, William Forsythe and Gina Gershon have joined the supporting cast. Based on Hans Christian Anderson’s 1837 fairy tale, the live-action family film starring Poppy Drayton, Loreto Peralta and Shirley MacLaine.

A Little Mermaid centers on Elle (Peralta), a young orphan who discovers a beautiful and enchanting creature (Drayton) she believes to be the real “Little Mermaid.” Moseley will play Cam Harrison, Elle’s overprotective older brother who has come to the U.S. to live after the deaths of her parents. A newspaperman, he is sent to a small Mississippi town on an assignment to find out more about some mysterious healing waters and ends up learning more than he ever imagined about the power of love, belief and magic — both light and dark.

Chris Bouchard directs and Blake Harris scripted the pic, which is the first project for MVP Studios founded by Robert Molloy — the grandson of former New York Yankees owner George Steinbrenner — and producer Armando Gutierrez. The will be released next year.

Moseley is a regular on E!’s drama The Royals and co-starred as Peter in the Chronicle of Narnia films. He is repped by APA, Untitled Entertainment and attorney Lev Ginsburg. Gershon is with Abrams Artists Agency and Untitled, and Forsythe is with Abrams and the Arlick Group.

"A Little Mermaid" with Shirley MacLaine filming in Savannah

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
A lot of attention is being paid to the waters of Tybee and "Baywatch," but did you know another movie is being filmed in Savannah?

"A Little Mermaid," not to be confused with the big-budget live-action production also in the works, is a smaller budget production in Savannah and Tybee. It stars Hollywood legend Shirley MacLaine, William Mosley from the Chronicles of Narnia, Poppy Drayton from Criminal Minds, and several young stars. They've all been filming the Hans Christian Anderson classic since February.

Attached are some photos from their Instagram pages.

'A Little Mermaid' now in post production

Saturday, May 28th 2016

Last week, we took you behind the scenes. This week, we have exclusive interviews with the cast and crew of "A Little Mermaid."

The film, based on the Hans Christian Anderson novel, was filmed in Savannah, Tybee, Pooler and Garden City, from March until last Friday. Featuring mermaids and oddities, we caught up with the young woman who plays "Elle," and the crew members to talk about the movie - and Savannah.

"I love this version. It is the best version I've heard because it's set in the 1930's, and I get to wear these cool costumes. We are shooting in Savannah, Georgia, a state just erupting with film and television opportunities. It is great," said Loreto Peralta, "Elle", "A Little Mermaid."

"A Little Mermaid is now in post production, and should hit theaters next year.

Speriamo arrivi in Italia.

Comunque il titolo è cambiato da A Little Mermaid a The Little Mermaid.

Il film è diretto in tandem dall'esperto in effetti visivi Chris Bouchard (Hackney's Finest) e dallo sceneggiatore Blake Harris (12 volte Natale).
