E' stato scoperto un un virale che dovrebbe essere collegato a un nuovo corto Pixar, il quale probabilmente sarà annunciato nei prossimi giorni.

Sul sito http://rainycitytales332.tumblr.com/ e su twitter https://twitter.com/rainycitytales3 sono state rilasciate decine di indizi a partire da febbraio. Alcuni di questi lasciano presagire che il corto sia prodotto da Jonas Rivera e le musiche siano di Michael Giacchino.
Ai link trovate molte fotografie con altri indizi, tra cui riferimenti a Monsters University (il film con cui uscirà il corto?) e al Pizza Planet (ci sarà il solito cameo del furgoncino?).

Ho appena avuto un'idea: al festival di Toronto ci sarà la prima mondiale di Nemo 3D, non è che per caso proietteranno questo corto prima di Nemo a Toronto e poi anche al cinema?

We just finished our last anim dailies. And despite a few animators staying on for a bit longer, this group of amazing talent is now breaking up, heading into new challenges on their future projects. Non sarà proiettato davanti a Nemo 3D davanti a Nemo ci sarà Partysaurus Rex.
Quindi credo proprio che sarà il corto di Monsters University... o al massimo di Monsters & Co 3D!

Annunciato ufficialmente!
Il titolo del corto sarà The Blue Umbrella e uscirà al cinema con Monsters University.

La storia ruota attorno ad un ombrello blu che si innamora di un altro ombrello rosso. Ciò che sembra colpire maggiormente è il fotorealismo dell'animazione.

La regia è del debuttante Saschka Unseld, che lavora in Pixar dal 2008 e ha un background tecnico.

Pixar's Upcoming Umbrella Short Revealed

Pixar has finally revealed the short film behind the Rainy City Tales viral site that's been puzzling us since July. It's called The Blue Umbrella and it will be in theatres on June 21 with Monsters University. And, yes, it's going to be awesome.

The Wall Street Journal got the first look at a clip from the six-minute short.
The WSJ article (behind a paywall, unless you search for it through Google News) reports that Umbrella is the directorial debut of Saschka Unseld, who has worked in Pixar's camera and staging department since 2008.

With the director coming from a technical background, Pixar utilized techniques it hadn't before to achieve the "absolutely photorealistic" appearance of the short, in the words of Pixar creative chief John Lasseter.

So let me reiterate: awesome. The water simulation in The Incredibles looks like claymation now. And there's still five and a half minutes we haven't seen. Can you imagine how good this is going to look in 3-D?

The sneak peak does give away the central storyline, which is close to Disney's Paperman and its boy-meets-girl chance encounter. (Animators just want to get noticed?) But with its eye-popping visuals, this has way more potential for a wider audience.

Now the question that remains is, Why didn't Pixar just call it Rainy City Tales?

E' favoloso, sembra una faccina appiccicata su un ombrello vero (e non ho visto la clip, mi baso sul fermo immagine del video)!!!

Qui c'è qualcosa in più sulla tecnica usata per la realizzazione del corto. Decisamente interessante!

Ah interessante! Certo che...30 ore per renderizzare un fotogramma... Pazzesco! O_O
Si intuiva ci fosse un uso di qualche tecnica nuova, però anche John Lasseter dice che comunque hanno sempre cercato di creare cose che nella realtà non esistono! Sicuramente sarà bellissimo, ma spero sia un episodio unico...insomma l'animazione è bella perché non è del tutto realistica, o no?

E' un fotorealistico e cartoonesco, un po' come Brave. Almeno a me dalla clip sembra così... Però poi nell'articolo ci sono frasi come "But the animation doesn't look cartoony"/ "Mr. Unseld wanted the scenes to appear photographic, even when inanimate objects come to life" ...
Boh, vediamo che ne esce fuori, per ora mi sembra molto interessante! Ho adorato La Luna, ma con questo si ritorna alla sperimentazione come con Day & Night, e Iry approva. u.u
